The Baker Hughes Production Engineering Lab (208/209 Hosler) Production Engineering Lab primarily serves as an instructional facility for PNGE undergraduate students enrolled in the PNG 482 course (Production Engineering Laboratory). It provides several hands-on experiments, including:
• Crude Oil Analysis: Measuring API gravity with a hydrometer, viscosity of crude oil and liquids using a Saybolt viscometer, and determining basic sediment and water content (BS&W) of crude oil using the centrifuge method
• Heat of Combustion: Measuring the heat of combustion of organic samples using Leco Bomb Calorimeter
• Gas Water-Content: Measuring the water content of gases using a dew point tester
• Pressure Gauge Test: Calibrating pressure gauges with deadweight testers
• Emulsion Treatment: Testing different demulsifiers and conducting bottle tests using Baker Hughes bottle-test apparatus
• Gravity Separation: Analyzing the separation of oil, gas, and water using a three-phase separator and terminal velocity apparatus
• Pipe Flow: Measuring pressure drop in pipes, valves, and orifices using the pipe flow apparatus for both liquid and gas systems
• Well Survey: Measuring pressure in static wells and temperature in water injection wells
