Eligibility: Outstanding full-time graduate students studying fuel science and/or coal utilization topics in the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering. You do not have to be enrolled in the Fuel Science Option, but you do have to show that your work is in that area.

Note that you should consider the essay an opportunity to highlight your credentials, as you would when applying for a job, and to mention qualification factors that are not readily apparent in your resume. While the selection process will typically emphasize exceptional performance in all course work, candidates are encouraged to bring to the attention of the selection committee other factors of a scholarly nature showing specific accomplishments or powerful and unique intellectual breadth.

Awards: The individual awards for which you will be considered are listed below, however, only one application is necessary to apply for all available awards. All award decisions will be made from one applicant pool.
Charles B. Darrow Award in Fuel ScienceConsideration for this award shall be given to students enrolled in the Energy and Mineral Engineering (EME) Graduate Program who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, with preference being given to students engaged in the study of coal utilization.
Frank and Lucy Rusinko Graduate Fellowship in Energy and Geo-Environmental EngineeringConsideration for this award shall be given to students enrolled in the Energy and Mineral Engineering (EME) Graduate Program who are engaged in the study of fuel science and who exhibit academic excellence.
Frank J. Vastola and Ruth J. St. Clair Vastola Graduate ScholarshipConsideration for this award shall be given to students enrolled in the Energy and Mineral Engineering (EME) Graduate Program whose research utilizes computational methods in energy or fuel conversion.
