Endowed scholarships exist because generous alumni and friends have donated funds to support our students. Those funds are invested, and the principal remains invested and intact. Scholarships are awarded each year from the interest generated from those investments. In this way the scholarship exists in perpetuity for us to award every year. We also receive some annual gift funds from companies in the industry. These funds are not invested but spent entirely as scholarships each year. The number and amount of these awards varies year to year based on what companies are able to provide.
In all cases, the scholarship sponsors define specific guidelines for the use of their funding. We award each scholarship according to the donors’ wishes. Following you can see some of these specified criteria. We have our students complete one application indicating that they would like to be considered for scholarships the following year. We then evaluate all applicants by the criteria of the available awards and best match students to scholarships. Unfortunately, we have more applicants than we have available funds, which means that students are competing with their peers for funding. Not all applicants receive awards.
The following is a list of many of the scholarships currently awarded in the department.
