What is your dream job and how is EME helping you to get closer to it?
I expected to become a data scientist working in the research & development division in the energy industry. EME provides many great opportunities to cultivate problem-solving capabilities, build connections, and improve my communication skills.
What student organizations and activities are you involved in?
I used to be the graduate student representative at the EME Graduate Student Council.
What’s the number one reason prospective graduate students should choose EME to pursue their research?
The EME department has excellent graduate programs. For example, in the Q.S. 2023 subject ranking, Petroleum Engineering ranks 19th worldwide and 5th among the U.S. universities.
Why did you decide to attend Penn State?
The environment is beautiful. The town is quiet, safe, and clean.
My research focuses on developing physics-based and data-based machine-learning models to predict the flowing bottomhole pressure of unconventional oil wells under dynamic gas lift operations. The research can be applied to gas lift optimization under different fluid and well conditions, further influencing unconventional oil production.
We use the selected fluid properties, well parameters, and production data combined with a representative pipe flow model to develop physics-based machine learning models. Meanwhile, the limited well parameters and production data are used to develop data-based models.
What is the one Penn State activity that everyone should participate in, and why?
THON, the biggest student charity organization in North America.
