The Drilling and Completion Lab (31/32 Hosler Building) primarily serves as an instructional facility for PNGE undergraduate students enrolled in the PNG 451 course (Drilling Laboratory). It provides several hands-on experiments, including:
• Filtration properties and conductivity of drilling fluids using LTLP/HTHP filter press
• Drilling fluid formulation and mixing using the Fann high-speed mixer
• Rheology of drilling fluids using Fann rheometer
• Mud and cement volumetric calculations and rheology measurement using mud balance and Brookfield automated rheometer
• Cement and rock strength measurement and analysis using Carver hydraulic press and Grace UCS tester
• Cement slurry and high-performance fluid rheology measurement using Fann HTHP cement consistometer
• Cement filtration properties measurement using HTHP cement tester
• Lost circulation material performance analysis using OFITE permeability plugging tester
• Drilling and completion fluid wettability measurement Chandler’s wettability tester
• Minimally-invasive method of rock strength properties measurement using the scratch apparatus
